Geoffrey E. Spofford, a graduate of the University of New Hampshire (cum laude) and the Northeastern University School of Law, began practicing in the Worcester area in 1989 and joined the firm of Lian, Zarrow, Eynon & Shea in 1995; becoming a partner with the firm in 1997.

Throughout his career, Geoff has concentrated his practice in the representation of individuals and families affected by catastrophic injuries. Geoff has recovered millions of dollars to compensate victims and their families. Recently, he settled a case for an electrician who suffered permanent injuries at a construction site, as well as for his wife and children, for over $2.2 million. Geoff has successfully pursued claims for victims of auto accidents, slip and fall accidents, premise liability claims, sexual abuse and dog bites.

Attorney Spofford has engaged in other areas of trial work, both criminal and general civil litigation, as well as criminal appellate practice. He has tried jury and non-jury cases at all level of the Massachusetts Court system and has argued cases before the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court and Massachusetts Appeals Court. Geoff’s criminal defense practice includes the representation of individuals charged with motor vehicle offenses, including OUI’s, representation of individuals charged with rape and sexual assault, computer crimes, including possession of child pornography, crimes of violence, drug offenses and larceny claims. Geoff is a member of the Massachusetts Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Geoff has been asked by Justices of the Worcester Probate and Family court to accept representation of individuals on numerous issues. Geoff represented a thirty-four year old man seeking the right to die. The young man had suffered a brain stem stroke which left him unable to move any muscles in his body, except his eyes. Through expert testimony, Attorney Spofford established the man’s competency and obtained an Order from the Probate Court entitling the young man to refuse medical treatment, including nutrition and hydration. For his efforts on behalf of his client, Attorney Spofford was awarded the Worcester County Bar Association’s President's Award.

Geoff has been actively involved in the Massachusetts Bar Association, having served two terms (2004-2006) on the MBA House of Delegates. He has also been active in the Worcester County Bar Association, having served two terms on the WCBA Executive Committee, and having chaired several committees and sections. He has been involved in the community, serving for over 10 years on the Board of Directors of the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Central Massachusetts, Inc. Geoff is also involved in many activities in his community, coaching children’s sports teams and volunteering at the local schools
