John A. Shea, Managing Partner

John A. Shea has been the managing partner of Lian, Zarrow, Eynon & Shea since September 2007. He was admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1987, in the U.S. District Court in 1988 and in the U. S. Supreme Court in 1995.

One focus of John’s practice is family law including divorce; custody; and support, removal, modification and contempt actions. He is trained as a divorce mediator and mediates in all areas of family law.

A second focus is probate and civil litigation. John has tried contested probate matters, including contested wills and actions regarding matters in equity and probate accountings; and represents both plaintiffs and defendants in civil litigation including in jury trials.

A third focus is real-estate law. John represents buyers, sellers and lenders in commercial and residential real estate transactions. He has experience in zoning and municipal law, and represents individuals and businesses in a variety of contexts including administrative-law hearings and before local and state agencies. He handles the purchase and sale of businesses.

  • Hearing officer for the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers, which investigates and evaluates complaints against lawyers
  • Member of the Massachusetts Bar Association’s (MBA) House of Delegates
  • Member of the Massachusetts Council on Family Mediation
  • Past president of the Worcester County Bar Association; has served multiple terms as member of the WCBA’s Executive Committee and as chairperson for other WCBA committees
  • Presenter at the American Bar Association’s annual Bar Leadership Institute and for the Massachusetts Bar Association

Serves as Lawyer for the Day at the Worcester Probate and Family Court

Community service

  • Chairman of mental-health and substance-abuse services provider Community Healthlink Inc., an affiliate of the UMass Memorial Health Care System
  • Past member of the city of Worcester’s Planning Board (1999-2009)
