John A. Shea is the managing Partner of the firm as of September 2007. He focuses on Family Law, probate and civil litigation, commercial and residential real estate and Mediation. He graduated from Assumption College with a Bachelors of Arts Degree, cum laude. He received his law degree, J.D. from Boston University School of Law in 1987 and was admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1987, to the United States District Court in 1988 and the U. S. Supreme Court in 1995.

John has extensive experience in representing individuals in family law matters including divorce, custody, and support, removal, modification and contempt actions. He has also tried contested probate matters including will contests and actions regarding matters in equity and accountings. John is also trained in the area of divorce mediation, and is a member of the Massachusetts Council on Family Mediation. He mediates all matters involving family law. John represents both plaintiffs and defendants in civil litigation including in jury trials.

John also represents buyers, sellers and lenders in both residential and commercial real estate transactions. He has experience in zoning and municipal law. He has represented individuals and businesses in a variety of contexts including administrative law hearings and before local and state agencies. He has handled the purchase and sale of businesses.

John is active both in the community, civic and legal associations of attorneys. He is currently the President of the Worcester County Bar Association, having served multiple terms on the Association’s Executive Committee and as chairperson for a variety of other committees. He is Chairperson of the City of Worcester’s Planning Board having been appointed to the Board in 1999. He is Chairperson of the Board for Community Healthlink an affiliate of UMass Memorial Health Care System. Community Healthlink is the largest provider of mental health and substance abuse services in Central Massachusetts. John serves as an Attorney Volunteer with the “Lawyer For the Day” program at the Worcester County Probate Court, which provides legal advice to indigent litigants. He serves as a Hearing Officer for the Board of Bar Overseers, the body that oversees attorney misconduct. He is a member of the Board of Delegates of the Massachusetts Bar Association, Recipient of the Distinguished Lawyer Award from the Saint Thomas More Society in 2006, and a Panelist for the American Bar Association's annual Bar Leadership Institute Program in Chicago
